Jasbina previously practiced law in San Francisco and Chicago. She earned her B.A/M.A. in Philosophy from Vanderbilt University, and JD from the University of Michigan Law School.

Meet Neera Tanden of the Center for American Progress


Neera Tanden has over a decade of experience in the executive and legislative branch, as well as in campaigns, local government, and think tanks.

As Chief Operating Officer, she leads strategic planning for the organization, manages operations, and oversees the health care program. Neera Tanden has most recently served as senior advisor for health reform at the Department of Health and Human Services, advising Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and working on the president’s health reform team to pass the bill. In that role, she developed policies around reform, and worked with the Hill and outside groups on the president’s health reform legislation.

Prior to that, Tanden was the director of domestic policy for the Obama-Biden presidential campaign, where she managed all domestic policy proposals, including health care.

Before that, Tanden served as policy director for the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign where she directed all policy work, ranging from domestic policy to the economy to foreign affairs, and managed day to day policy announcements. In that role, she also oversaw the debate preparation process for the candidate.

Before the presidential campaign, Tanden was Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Center for American Progress, which she rejoined. She was one of the first senior staff members at CAP, joining as Senior Vice President for Domestic Policy when CAP first opened its doors. In between, Tanden was Senator Clinton’s legislative director, where she oversaw all policy in the Senate office.

In 2000, she was Hillary Clinton’s deputy campaign manager and issues director for her Senate campaign in New York. Tanden also served as associate director for domestic policy in the Clinton White House, and senior policy advisor to the first lady.
Tanden currently has a regular column for The New Republic online and has appeared on the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, MSNBC, CNN, and Fox. She received her bachelor of science from UCLA and her law degree from Yale Law School.

Meet Emma Seppala at the NetIP conference

Have an interest in the fascinating field of psychology? Come meet Emma Seppala. She received her BA from Yale University and her Ph.D. in Psychology from Stanford University. She is currently a research associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for Investigating Healthy Minds. Her research centers on compassion, belongingness, and well-being. She is currently evaluating the effects of yoga- and meditation-based interventions for veterans returning from Iraq/Afghanistan with post-traumatic stress disorder. Emma is a science writer/contributing editor at Spirituality & Health magazine. She has also provided consulting on well-being for corporations and teaches students on university campuses.

Interested in Nonprofits? Meet Vikram D.Bakhru – Founder Int’l Medical Relief for Children

Do you have a passion for Nonprofits and making the world a better place? Come and meet Dr. Vikram D. Bakhru, who currently serves as a Director at New York Presbyterian Hospital/The University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell in New York City.

Vik founded the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) in 2002, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing health care access to children in underserved areas of the developing world. FIMRC now boasts a team of over 3,000 full-time staff and volunteers who work hard to further develop FIMRC’s self-sustainable revenue model and the world’s first non-monetary model of micro-health insurance.

Prior to medical school, Vik earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The George Washington University as part of the Seven-Year Integrated Medical Program. Upon graduation from medical school, Vik pursued a surgical residency in Philadelphia and subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Meet yoga guru Carrie Getsinger at the 2011 NetIP Conference!

Carrie Getsinger It has been proven that practicing yoga can improve your mood, can lead to stress reduction, blood pressure and a number more health benefits. Time for you to learn more about it! Meet an experienced yoga teacher, Carrie Getsinger at this years conference. Carrie moved to the DC area three years ago to pursue a Masters in Security Studies from Georgetown University. Upon graduation, she had the opportunity to pursue her passion for yoga and attended Bikram yoga teacher training. She has been teaching Bikram yoga full-time since December 2009 and currently manages Hot Yoga Bikram Tysons in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

You will leave the session with an understanding of the differences between yoga forms, ideas of how to incorporate yoga and meditation into the daily grind, and hopefully a newfound interest to explore at least one type of yoga!

Meet Anju Bhargava – Founder, Hindu American Seva Charities at the conference

Mrs. Bhargava, a Senior Vice-President at Bank of America, is a Strategic Business Transformation and Risk Management senior professional and management consultant with over two decades of experience in consulting and working for major companies globally. She has provided thought leadership in the public and private sectors, published papers and received many awards. A change catalyst pioneer and social entrepreneur, she now volunteers with the Livingston Township, Board of Education, Interfaith Clergy Association and diverse residents to build healthy communities with cross-cultural inclusion. An ordained pujarin, she strives to combine philosophy and practice from a contemporary view. She is the Founder of Hindu American Seva Charities, President of Asian Indian Women in America, member of President Obama’s Council on Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and Trustee of Council for a Parliament of World Religions.
